Rita Bonicelli (formerly Rita Bieniewicz) served as an Assistant District Attorney with the Rackets Bureau of the Bronx County District Attorney’s Office from 2005 until 2009. While there, she gained extensive criminal trial experience and led long-term investigations into allegations of sex trafficking, the illegal sale of firearms, and official corruption within New York City government. During that time, Ms. Bonicelli was also appointed to serve as a key member of the New York City Coalition to End the Sexual Exploitation of Children.

After leaving the DA’s office, Ms. Bonicelli accepted a position as an NYPD prosecutor under Police Commissioner Ray Kelly. While in that capacity, she handled matters involving police officers, detectives, and high-ranking members of the police department accused of misconduct and corruption through negotiations and trial.

Ms. Bonicelli left the NYPD in 2012, choosing to relocate to the Hamptons full time and to dedicate her talents to helping those in the communities of the East End with their legal needs.

Since she began practicing on the East End, Rita has represented clients facing both felonies and misdemeanors in many of the outlying criminal courts and county courts.  Rita also appears in all family courts, advocating for her clients in incidents of domestic violence, and post-matrimonial proceedings. Ms. Bonicelli handles all real estate matters, as well as code, planning and zoning matters.

Rita graduated from Loyola University of Maryland cum laude, and earned her law degree from New York Law School, graduating cum laude, where she also served on the Law Review.

Ms. Bonicelli is dedicated to a number of charitable organizations in Montauk and the Hamptons, including The Retreat, a non-profit program committed to assisting victims of domestic violence on the East End of Long Island.

In addition, Ms. Bonicelli is on the Board of Music for Montauk non-profit organization devoted to providing year-round classical music and educational programs in open spaces that can be equally enjoyed by all members of the community.
